This year the Washington State Lake Protection Association (WALPA) will host its annual conference together with the Oregon Lakes Association (OLA) in Vancouver, Washington. The conference is scheduled for October 16-18 at the Vancouver Hilton. This year’s theme of Collaborative Lake Management will cover topics that appeal to a wide variety of lake managers, scientists, public agencies and citizen lake associations.
Tentative session topics include:
- Vancouver Lake
- Harmful algae blooms (HABs)
- Nutrient management
- Invasive aquatic species
- Impacts of dam removal
- Student research
- Aquatic invertebrates
- Urban lakes research and management
- Volunteer monitoring
- Fish ecology

Abstracts and posters can be submitted here and must be in by September 1st. Remember that submissions will be considered in the order received, so get yours in promptly!
WALPA’s annual photo contest will continue again this year, too. Your favorite photos can be submitted to bijay@libertylake.org. A prize will also be awarded for the top student posters from Washington and Oregon.
