Committees

Board members serve on a variety of committees, each of which plays an integral role in achieving WALPA's mission. If you're interested in serving on a committee please reach out to us at info@walpa.org.

Supports the organization’s operations by identifying funding opportunities and grants and developing fundraising initiatives.

Fundraising and Grants

Evaluates and awards scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students from Washington or Idaho universities conducting research relevant to the science and management of lakes.

Scholarship Committee

Manages WALPA membership as well as nominations for various awards.

Membership & Nominations

Helps to plan the Western Washington Conference, a virtual workshop held each Spring on different lake-related topics.

Western Conference

Organizes WALPA's annual meeting, selecting a location, venue, and theme, as well as developing the program, recruiting speakers, and coordinating fundraising events.

Annual Conference

Advocates for policies and funding that will protect and improve lake health. Contact at policy@walpa.org.

Public Policy & Legislation

Supports student engagement and organizes outreach and events while promoting diversity, equity, and social justice in the freshwater field. Contact at mentorship@walpa.org.

Student Affairs, Outreach & DEI

Communicates WALPA news, events, and lake information to members and the public by generating the Ripple, the Waterline, social media posts, and website updates. Contact at communications@walpa.org.
