2017 WALPA 30th Annual Conference – Oct 11-13 in Spokane, WA

WALPA heads east to Spokane this year to host its 30th annual conference at the Hotel RL by Red Lion Spokane at the Park , located on the banks of the Spokane River. We invite you to join fellow lake lovers to share the latest in lake research and science and lake management during talk and poster sessions.

Submit Abstracts and Session Ideas

We are looking for ideas for session themes and speakers. Email jimgawel@uw.edu with proposed sessions.

Workshops (Wednesday Afternoon, 12:00pm – 5:30pm)

Invasive Species: Plant and Animal (2 hours)
This workshop will be a hands-on exercise designed to help participants learn how to identify invasive plant and animal species. Participants will work with preserved specimens to identify their distinguishing characteristics.

Lake Sampling: Instrumentation and Methods (3 hours)
This hands-on workshop will allow participants to try out different water quality instrumentation and sampling equipment on a local lake. Best practices for sampling methods and tips and tricks from experienced field researchers will be covered.

Send us your nominations for the 2017 Secchi Disk Award!

The WALPA Board is seeking nominations for the annual Secchi Disk Award to be presented at this fall’s conference in Spokane. Each year WALPA recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the science of lake management and protection. Let us know about a lake hero who should be honored with this year’s Secchi Disk Award.

Who is eligible?

The Award is open to any individual contributing to lake science, protection, or management in Washington or Idaho. Recipients of the Secchi Disk Award must be current WALPA members, and current WALPA Board members are not eligible to receive the award.

How can I nominate someone?

To submit your nomination, please provide:

  • Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email.
  • Full name of the nominee, present position, organization or affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email.
  • A 200-500 word description of the nominee’s work and accomplishments.
