On May 6th, WALPA hosted its second annual Western Washington Lakes Workshop: Reel Science. This free event was hosted and planned by WALPA’s Public Outreach Committee as an opportunity for fishers, lake recreators, students, homeowners’ associations, and managers to learn more about lake fishing topics.
Workshop presentations this year included topics like lake ecology as it relates to fish, fish stocking information from WDFW, invasive species, lake access and permit information, and fish consumption advisories/contaminants in fish. The event drew a lively 40 people who asked presenters interesting and thought-provoking questions about fish management and reporting invasive species.
The event concluded with the awarding of giveaway prizes; prizes were provided by our sponsors Herrera and Western Washington University—thank you sponsors!
If you are reel-y sorry you missed the conference, don’t despair! You can view the recording with this link. Please pass this link along to others who might be interested. And check out the great resources below shared by presenters and audience members at the conference.
It was a great opportunity to learn more about lake fishing in Western Washington. We’re looking forward to seeing what next year’s workshop will have in store! And please, if you attended, give us your feedback with this short survey so we can improve for next year.
